Senior Business Analyst

We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst for a 4-month contract position, with possible extensions in Calgary, Alberta. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

This position is a hybrid position primarily on-site in downtown Calgary with 5 days per month remote

Role Description

As a member of the core project team, the BA is responsible for developing artifacts that aid in translating solution designs into software development activities. More specifically, capturing and creating business requirements documentation, effectively communicating these requirements to sponsors, stakeholders, and project team members. Validating that the implemented solution meets the specified requirements and testing the solution to ensure that the project objectives are met.

Responsibilities

Skilled in leading requirements gathering sessions and generating business rules.

Experienced in creating User Stories and translating business needs to technical teams.

Provides business analysis support for product development at both project and operational levels.

Coordinates and executes system testing, supports test case creation, and participates in User Acceptance Testing.

Identifies opportunities for continuous process improvements and maintains process and technical documentation.

Works collaboratively with diversified teams to ensure business benefits align with objectives.

Required Skills and Experience

University degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent experience is preferred

Certified Business Analysis Professional designation would be considered an asset

Strong knowledge of business analysis theory, principles, and best practices. Understands the business’ needs/expectations and provides realistic responses and actively monitors client needs from planning to closeout.

Strong knowledge and/or working experience of agile software development methodologies and the project management lifecycle

Able to demonstrate through previous work experience their well-developed interpersonal, facilitation, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

Experience working in a team environment where different opinions and perspectives must be managed, negotiated and resolved.

Demonstrated experience with software development management tools such as Azure DevOps, Miro, SharePoint, Balsamiq and MS Office Suite.

Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, XP, or Lean) with previous practical experience in an agile/scrum delivery environment is an asset.

Product Owner experience would be considered an asset.
