Senior Accounting Manager (Full-Time)
Location: Gary, IN
Hours: Full-time (~40 hrs/week)
Reports to: Controller
Supervises: Accounting team, including Accounting Manager/support roles
Role Summary
The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the companys core accounting functions, providing financial visibility to leadership and project teams, and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. This role oversees full-cycle construction accounting, including job costing, payables/receivables, month-end close, and financial reporting, while also supporting technology tools.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, including balance sheet accounts, accruals, prepaids, and intercompany entries
Oversee accounts payable (vendor & subcontractor invoices, payment processing, approvals) ensuring proper coding to jobs/projects
Manage accounts receivable: monthly billing, collections, and tracking of retainage and holdbacks
Perform construction job costing: monitor budget vs. actuals, review cost estimates, analyze variances, and provide cost forecasts
Assist with project billing (AIA billings, draw requests) and coordinate with project teams to validate billable work
Support compliance with contract requirements: lien waivers, certified payroll (if applicable), retainage release, and subcontractor compliance
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and roll-forwards
Coordinate with external auditors or consultants as needed
Maintain internal controls, identify weaknesses, and recommend process improvements
Partner with project managers and operations leaders to ensure financial visibility into project performance
Provide ad hoc financial analysis, forecasts, and support budgeting
Support implementation, integration, or upgrades related to ProCore and Jonas Accounting modules
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience; construction industry experience strongly preferred
Experience leading accounting functions or acting in a senior capacity
Strong communication skills able to explain accounting to non-finance stakeholders
High attention to detail, accuracy, and process discipline
Proficiency in Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, etc.)
Experience with ProCore and Jonas Accounting strongly preferred
Familiarity with construction accounting (job costing, retainage, AIA billing, change orders)
