What You'll Do:

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking an experienced individual for a Quality Assurance Laboratory Supervisor vacancy in Drug Chemistry or Comparative Sciences in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Section, London Ohio office. This position will report to the Lab daily. The Quality Assurance Laboratory Supervisor will be headquartered out of our London, Bowling Green or Richfield offices. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, is the state’s official crime lab serving the criminal justice community and protecting Ohio families. BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request. With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to local law enforcement agencies’ needs at no cost to the requesting agency.

Staff at BCI work every day to provide the highest level of service. This includes special agents who are on call 24/7 to offer investigative assistance at crime scenes, knowledgeable scientists and forensic specialists using cutting-edge technology to process evidence to bring criminals to justice, and criminal intelligence analysts and identification specialists who help local law enforcement solve cases. Experienced special agents, forensic scientists, and other law enforcement experts' staff BCI's three main divisions\: 1) Identifications 2) Investigations and 3) Laboratory..

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Drug Chemistry:

Supervises crime lab quality assurance operations of forensic science coordinators assigned to Drug Chemistry

Assigns work & evaluates personnel

Ensures compliance with regulations (e.g. quality inquiries & corrective actions, internal audits, equipment, reference collection(s) & chemical storage records, and policy development)

Conducts various studies, surveys, & operational evaluations (e.g., training programs, validations, performance checks and distribution of performance monitoring tests)

Assists with delegated administrative assignments

Serves as liaison between administration & subordinates

Provides both formal & informal training

Responsible for ensuring compliance and proper documentation of all QA program described elements as they relate to staff

Knowledge of management, workforce planning, employee training & development, supervision

Ability to deal with many variables & determine specific action

Ability to understand manuals & verbal instructions, technical in nature

Comparative Sciences:

Supervises crime lab quality assurance operations of forensic science coordinators assigned to a comparative science (e.g., Firearms, Latent Prints, Questioned Documents, and Trace/GSR)

Assigns work & evaluates personnel

Ensures compliance with regulations (e.g., quality inquiries & corrective actions, internal audits, equipment, reference collection(s) & chemical storage records, and policy development)

Conducts various studies, surveys, & operational evaluations (e.g., training programs, validations, performance checks and distribution of performance monitoring tests)

Assists with delegated administrative assignments

Serves as liaison between administration & subordinates

Provides both formal & informal training

Responsible for ensuring compliance and proper documentation of all QA program described elements as they relate to staff

Knowledge of management, workforce planning, employee training & development, supervision

Ability to deal with many variables & determine specific action

Previously authorized in drug chemistry or comparative science casework with at least 5 years of experience, lab analytical instruments

5 yrs. training or 5 yrs. exp. in physical or biological science that included 3 yrs. exp. in analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in physical or biological science; 4 yrs. analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.

-Or completion of graduate core program in physical or biological science (e.g., chemistry; biology, or physics); 3 yrs. exp. in analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
