Summary
State Structures Staff Specialist Engineer leads the development and implementation of statewide structures policies, specifications, and quality assurance programs. This role provides expert technical oversight, supports innovation in construction methods, and ensures consistency across districts through training, policy development, and on-site evaluations.
What You Will Do
Serve as the Structures Staff Specialist, developing engineering policies and plans for complex or unique projects with significant organizational impact.
Chair the Structures Specification Committee, updating and publishing the State of Ohio Construction & Material Specification (C&MS) book and the Construction Inspection Manual.
Conduct Technical Process Reviews (TPRs), prepare annual Quality Assurance Reports (QARs), and perform on-site evaluations for contract and specification compliance.
Advise on contract administration, change orders, and emergency requests, acting as a liaison between Central Office, Districts, and industry.
Research and incorporate best practices and new technologies statewide, including reviewing other states’ practices.
Develop and deliver online training courses for local governments, construction staff, and contractor associations using Microsoft Office.
