Mechanical Technician

Location: Bartonville/ Peoria, IL

Department: Maintenance - Steel Mill

Hourly Wage: $27.00-$35.00/hour + OT Opportunities

Schedule: Full-time Must be available for various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Join our team as Mechanical Technician!

Are you a skilled mechanical troubleshooter with a passion for keeping things running smoothly? Do you have experience repairing complex machinery in a heavy industrial setting? If so, we want YOU on our team!

What You'll Do:

Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems across Steel Mill operations.

Perform regular preventative maintenance activities including lubrication, calibration, realignment, and testing.

Use advanced tools to troubleshoot complex issues-such as PLCs, thermal imaging, ultrasonic testing, and circuit testing.

Disassemble, repair, and rebuild machinery including gearboxes, pumps, motors, valves, and more.

Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work, safety permits, and inspections.

Use precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, laser alignment tools, etc.) to ensure components meet specifications.

Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and OEM specs.

Work closely with engineers, operations, and contractors for effective maintenance execution.

Adhere to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and PPE requirements.

Recommend process improvements and participate in root cause analysis (RCA) initiatives.

Mentor and assist in training junior maintenance staff.

What We're Looking For:

Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of industrial machine repair experience, ideally in a steel mill or heavy industrial setting.

Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical school/apprenticeship preferred.

Skills:

Expert knowledge in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals

Familiarity with OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and plant safety standards

Welding, machining, or electrical certification preferred

Strong communication skills and team-focused mindset
