RN Responsibilities:
Circulate for cesarean sections
Labor and postpartum care
Newborn assessments and couplet care
Interdisciplinary Support:
Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, PT, Pharmacy, Social Services, Phlebotomy, Interpretation Services, Rapid Response Team, Lift Team
Position Requirements
Experience: Minimum 1 year of L&D experience
First-Time Travelers: Accepted
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year)
Float Requirement: Yes – between like units and possibly sister facilities
Block Scheduling: Per manager discretion
On-Call: Not required
RTO: Must be included at time of submission
Required Certifications
All certifications must be active and issued through the American Heart Association (AHA):
BLS – Basic Life Support
ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program
AWHONN Intermediate – Fetal Monitoring (Preferred/Required for most facilities)
Skills & Clinical Competencies
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in:
Labor & Delivery and Couplet Care
High-risk OB and Antepartum
Cesarean section circulation and recovery
Postpartum hemorrhage management
Fetal heart monitoring (EFM, IUPC, NST, OCT)
Epidural anesthesia and magnesium sulfate therapy
Administration of blood products and oxytocin
Newborn assessment, thermoregulation, and phototherapy
Lactation and breastfeeding support
Emergency procedures (e.g., eclampsia, shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage)
Patient education and discharge teaching
(Candidates missing required core L&D skills should not be passed; may screen if otherwise strong.)
Scheduling & Staffing
Scheduling Type: Self-scheduling (4 weeks at a time)
Float Policy: Travelers are first to float within their scope
Weekend Coverage: Required per staffing needs
Orientation Hours: 40
Modules:
Non-billable (~16 hours, pre-start and annual)
20 hours requires PM approval
