As a Fire Captain, you'll oversee a dedicated team of emergency responders and ensure operational excellence in both routine and high-stakes situations. Why Fire Captain? * Supervise and support: Lead Firefighters, Drivers, Paramedics, and Lieutenants during your shift, ensuring smooth daily operations and clear communication. * Command emergency scenes: Serve as the initial Incident Commander, applying the Incident Command System and departmental protocols to manage and resolve emergencies effectively. * Deliver impactful training: Conduct both classroom and hands-on training sessions in alignment with the Annual Training Plan and additional directives from the Fire Chief. * Operate critical equipment: Maintain proficiency in using all department vehicles and tools, including hydraulic pumps, generators, and power units. * Maintain readiness: Uphold physical fitness and full-duty status to meet the physical demands of the role and respond at a moment's notice. Responsibilities * Lead Emergency Response: Serve as the initial Incident Commander, directing fire suppression, rescue, medical, and hazardous materials operations using the Incident Command System. * Supervise Personnel: Provide leadership and oversight to Lieutenants, Drivers, and Firefighters during both routine operations and emergency incidents. * Conduct Training: Develop and deliver hands-on and classroom training sessions; maintain lesson plans and accurate training records. * Ensure Operational Readiness: Maintain knowledge and proficiency in operating all fire apparatus, tools, and specialized rescue equipment. * Assess and Improve Performance: Evaluate subordinate performance and crew efficiency; participate in continuous process improvement initiatives. * Maintain Situational Awareness: Possess thorough knowledge of facility layouts, suppression systems, hydrant locations, and emergency access routes. * Promote Safety and Compliance: Enforce department policies, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations. * Communicate Effectively: Interface professionally with customers, contractors, and team members using verbal, written, and electronic communication. * Other Duties as Assigned Qualifications * Certifications (must hold one of the following for each category): *
Fire Officer II - DoD (IFSAC), Pro Board, or Mississippi State * Fire Instructor I - DoD (IFSAC), Pro Board, or Mississippi State * Hazardous Materials Operations - DoD (IFSAC), Pro Board, or Mississippi State * NIMS/ICS Training: ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 * Education & Age: High school diploma or GED; must be at least 21 years old * Licensing: Valid Mississippi State driver's license * Security: Must meet all standards in the Performance Work Statement and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance * Background Requirements: * No history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture * No felony convictions or offenses that impact reliability * Honorably discharged from the Armed Services (if applicable) * Medical & Fitness Standards: * Must meet NASA physical certification requirements * Must pass psychological evaluations and comply with drug/alcohol testing policies * Other Requirements: * Must successfully complete all required training, certifications, and clearances * Must be able to read, write, and understand English and apply written instructions
