Job Purpose:
Assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals' rights and benefits.
Essential Functions:
Com-hab and respite assistant needed for a disabled young adult woman in Macedon. She has cerebral palsy, developmental delays and a seizure disorder (-2 seizures/month). She is mostly nonverbal, but understands conversation, questions and instruction. Responsibilities include helping her reach goals and work on skills in home and community. Activities include arts & crafts, music, games, puzzles, helping her with equipment (walker, stander, bolster, wedge), transporting to community events in family's wheelchair van (she has a power wheelchair). We encourage her skills trainer to explore new activities. Training provided by parents for all equipment. Some personal hygiene assistance required. Applicants must be cheerful, very patient, compassionate, self-motivated, reliable and able to follow instructions! No smoking on our property or with client. Client's home has two cats.
Schedule:
Part-time (25-29.9hrs/week)
Respite - On call, Weekends/Holidays/M-F Mornings and Evenings
Com Hab - On call, Weekends/Holidays/M-F Mornings and Evenings
Location:
Macedon, NY
Pay Rate: $17-19 Respite
$21-23 Com Hab
Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent; one-year experience in the human service field preferred.
Qualifications:
Maintain a valid New York State driver's license; a vehicle is required to perform the job
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Must be trained in all required trainings within 90 days of being hired and maintain current certifications with all required trainings
Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communications skills
Must be 18 years or older
Applicants cannot have the same address as person supported
