POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for teaching students to develop skills in safety, solving Commercial HVAC mathematical problems, OSHA regulations, Commercial HVAC career and industry information, reading mechanical/technical drawings, electrical theory/troubleshooting, piping and tubing, heat theory and refrigeration cycle, servicing and maintaining refrigeration systems, motors and motor controls, cooling and heating systems, sizing and installing duct systems and EPA regulations. Prepares students for workplace readiness and encourages industry partner participation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Teach HVAC classes in accordance with industry and state standards.
• Must have knowledge of water flow, air flow, refrigerant flow calculations and gas laws.
• Must be able to teach the theory of Heat Pumps, Air Conditioning, and Commercial Refrigeration.
• Monitor and document student performance.
• Incorporate relevant technology into classroom presentations.
• Maintain safe work practices, tools, and equipment, keeping environment clean and organized
• Update and develop curriculum as necessary.
• Develop advisory committee and hold a minimum of two meetings yearly.
• Participate in department and district activities, committees, etc., as appropriate.
• Follow all compliance requirements.
• Participate in curriculum revision, program management, and research related activities.
• Update program with new methodologies and technologies as appropriate.
• Monitor student achievement and progress toward instructional goals and objectives of the program and district and initiate corrective action as necessary.
• Prepare or oversee completion of required documentation and reports.
• Develop and maintain appropriate communication and relationships with appropriate agencies.
• Communicate effectively with students, community members and school personnel.
• Demonstrate commitment to improving professional competence.
• Develop students' work place skills including interpersonal skills and communication skills.
• Provide a model for students of how to interact /communicate with customers and co-workers which promote effective and positive relationships.
• Plan, implement and participate in course awareness/marketing activities.
• Provide information to prospective students, and the community.
• Interact with local Commercial HVAC employers to facilitate the employment of Commercial HVAC students, develop student work plans that relate to the curriculum and meet employer needs, and evaluate students at their job sites.
• Perform other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A valid Ohio Adult Education permit.
• Familiarity with NCCER HVAC curriculum.
• EPA proctor or ability to achieve proctorship through ESCO group.
• EPA (608) universal certification.
• 5 years of teaching experience (adult education/work place mentoring).
• 5 years of HVAC trade experience (commercial).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong knowledge of electrical fundamentals including wiring schematics.
• Strong knowledge of the refrigeration cycle and measurements.
• Good communication and networking skills (relationships with industry companies/professionals).
• Proficient in Microsoft tools (PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Publisher).
• Proficient in/or the willingness to learn "Google Classroom" and or other LMS systems.
• Ability to read and understand combustion analysis tools.
• Proven background in classroom management principles relating to adult learners.
• Proficient with piping practices (brazing, soldering, press fittings and pipe threading).
• Proficient with sheet metal fabrication methods.
• Strong understanding of local building codes.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings relating to the HVAC field.
• Ability to: acquire and apply concepts, principles and methodologies of learning theory and teaching; communicate effectively, both orally, in writing and through electronic means, using appropriate language and grammar skills; develop instructional goals; design lessons, deliver instruction, and assess students' learning; develop work plans for students and monitor and evaluate them; provide work direction to others; and to serve as an effective liaison and effectively collaborate with others.
• Demonstrated skills in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and planning.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• A valid Ohio Driver's License and reliable transportation to visit internship sites.
