Under general supervision, the Senior Mechanical Technician performs skilled mechanical work and administrative and supervisory work directing the operation and maintenance of the County's mechanical systems. Work includes determining priorities and assigning personnel to various job sites in an efficient manner and determining the nature and extent of work to be performed. Provides leadership and sound judgement in decision making. Employee works in accordance with standard procedures and practices of the various trades and requires expert judgment and initiative in detecting the causes of malfunctions, in solving problems and in handling emergencies.
Reports to the Facilities Management Director.
Job Highlights
Schedules and assigns activities of Facilities Management Department mechanical staff.
Performs routine personnel administration duties for subordinates, including completion of leave requests, personnel reports, accident reports, project reports etc.
Supervises and performs maintenance and servicing of a variety of plumbing, ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems, furnaces, water and sewer pumps, etc.
Diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing facilities, heating and air conditioning systems, and various electrical systems.
Prepares performance reports on HVAC systems.
Assists in the procurement of equipment and supplies.
Examines and maintains fire alarm systems to ensure proper functioning.
Operates various types of hand tools, power equipment and machinery, precision instruments, specialized tools, gauges and devices.
Responds to emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
Assists in performing elevator repairs and maintenance.
Maintains department records and files.
Performs snow removal duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma/GED, supplemented by course work in HVAC and plumbing.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance of heating, air, electrical, and ventilation systems, and one (1) to two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Special Requirements
Possession of Universal Refrigerant Certification. Possession of a Journeyman's Electrical License.
Possession of a valid driver's license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.
Pass a post offer, pre-employment physical examination.
Employee may be subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure he/she meets job-related physical requirements
