The General Counsel will serve as the chief legal officer for the State Fire Marshal's Office, providing legal counsel, representation, and expertise on all matters related to fire prevention, safety regulations, emergency management, the development of state statutes, and administrative law.
This position plays a crucial role in supporting the agency's mission to protect lives, property, and the environment from fire-related hazards.
Additionally, the General Counsel will oversee inspection of public records requests that come to the Fire Marshal's Office, and work with the Record's Custodian to provide responsive documents to the public.
The General Counsel will also collaborate with the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management on relevant issues.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for ensuring public safety through the regulation and oversight of fire prevention, fire safety, and emergency management programs within New Mexico.
