Kōrero mō te tūranga About the role

We're looking for a Senior Advisor – Governance who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. This role is pivotal in supporting our Board and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) with high-quality secretariat services, risk and assurance oversight, and strategic governance advice.

You’ll play a key role in enabling informed decision-making across the agency, ensuring that our leadership and stakeholders are aligned, well-supported, and equipped to deliver on our mission of improving the wellbeing of New Zealanders through effective social investment.

This is a dynamic position where no two days are the same working at the intersection of governance, strategy, assurance, privacy, and procurement.

What You'll Be Doing

Lead and manage Board and ELT secretariat functions, agendas, minutes, and logistics

Provide strategic governance advice to senior leaders and stakeholders

Support enterprise risk management, assurance planning, and internal audit processes

Build and maintain key relationships across the social sector and within government

Drive continuous improvement in governance processes and systems

Support agency compliance with privacy and procurement obligations

You're a confident communicator, a trusted advisor, and someone who thrives on clarity, structure, and purpose.

Previous experience in a governance or secretariat role, ideally in the public sector

Strong understanding of risk, assurance, and strategic decision-making frameworks

Proven ability to work with senior leaders and navigate politically sensitive environments

A collaborative mindset with a knack for building strong relationships

Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to its principles

Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g. public policy, law, business, or similar)

Utu ā-tau Salary

Band 17: $106 760 - $125 600 (depending on skills & experience)
