JOB TITLE: Technology Specialist
SITE: Peach County Board of Education
WORK YEAR: 12 months/230 days
JOB SUMMARY: The Technology Specialist maintains and keeps computer and network equipment in operating condition; meets the technology needs of the district; and documents information and resolves immediate operational and/or safety concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assesses malfunctions of hardware for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer and network operations.
2. Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
3. Coordinates with other staff for the purpose of completing projects/work order efficiently.
4. Inspects computer and network equipment requiring specialized computer repair and troubleshooting skills for the purpose of identifying and verifying repair needs.
5. Installs software and equipment upgrades (e.g., Microsoft Office, email client, additional RAM, printers, etc.) for the purpose of building new and replacement computers for the district staff.
6. Prepares written materials (e.g., reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
7. Procures equipment, supplies, and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
8. Repairs computers, peripherals, network equipment and software, requiring specialized computer and electronics repair skills for the purpose of maintaining computer and network equipment in a safe and functional operating condition.
9. Trains selected personnel for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing software.
10. Transports a variety of items (e.g., equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job sites or transporting equipment for repairs.
11. Assist others in developing appropriate design and/or content elements relative to the department or program represented.
12. Assumes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: The individual must be able to perform each essential job duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the job at a fully acceptable level.
Professional Requirements:
The Technology Specialist must perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment; using pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
The incumbent is required to use algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: computer installation and repair techniques; Windows operating system, and email.
In addition, the Technology Specialist is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined, but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working with detailed information/data; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.
