Summary
This role ensures compliance with international trade laws and customs regulations. Involves classifying goods, managing import/export documentation and reports, monitoring tariff updates, and advising internal teams on customs-related requirements to optimize costs and avoid penalties.
Key Responsibilities
Review and update company procedures to align with changes in customs requirements and government regulations.
Assist in internal and external audits, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
Identify and mitigate compliance risks related to customs activities.
Determine accurate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and Schedule B codes for products.
Establish correct customs values, country of origin, and preferential duty eligibility.
Maintain and update internal classification databases and product master data.
Prepare, review, and validate import/export reports and documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, permits, and licenses.
Ensure all records comply with statutory requirements for retention and audit readiness.
Monitor and report duty spending and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
Qualifications/Experience/Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in international Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field.
Minimum 2–4 years of experience in customs compliance, international trade, or logistics.
Knowledge of customs laws, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), USMCA, free trade agreements, Incoterms, and other trade regulations.
Familiarity with customs brokerage processes, ERP systems, and trade compliance software.
Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
