Job Description
Due to an unseasonably high demand for our services, Winglewich Landscape Contracting is seeking a temporary employee starting now until the end of the calendar year. Opportunities for employment in 2026 are NOT guaranteed, but can be negotiated depending on employee performance, as well as economic opportunity for our company in 2026. Our place of business is located in Occidental, CA.
10hr shifts, Monday-Thursday, 7-5. Employees choose to work on friday for the overtime, paid at 1.5x normal rate. Employees all meet at our shop location in Occidental on mondays, and typically meet at jobsites for the rest of week.
Applicants must have experience in some sort of construction or landscaping application for a company. Self employment, volunteer work, or landscaping work for relatives/friends/personal will not be considered due to these environments typically not emphasizing production. Just one, or more of the following: Landscaping, excavation, masonry, woodworking, stonework/masonry, or nursery/horticultural experience under another company is required.
Also required:
- Valid drivers license, reliable transportation
- Ability to communicate in english ( good enough to safely and clearly communicate with crewmates)
- Ability to lift 80lb objects
- The mental and physical stamina to work in various outdoor conditions for 10hrs
- Ability to show up sober and on time to muster points @ jobsites and shop area in Occidental on Mondays
Pay Ranges for General Labor - see description
Base/Break In Period - 24$/hr
1 month peer review - acceptable performance acquired - 24.50
90 day peer review - acceptable performance acquired - 25$ hr & company uniforms!
6-9 month break in period acquired OR Aptitude test 75% or better = 26/hr
“ A Landscape Laborer assists journeymen and leads with day to day tasks, and typically works as part of a larger team. They may have prior landscaping or trades experience, but still require supervision and assistance with certain tasks, tools, and special equipment. A laborer is confident with common tools (shovels, drills, wheelbarrows,pruning tools, etc) and possesses both a strong physique and strong attitude. The laborer has their own transportation. Regarding production, the laborer should keep a brisk pace on lower skill tasks such as material handling, digging, and hauling brush, but might need guidance and more patience if tasked with higher skilled install work.
Pay Ranges For Technician
If you possess skills, knowledge, or certifications pertaining to technician and wish to start here, we will gladly entertain a request for a higher starting wage after applicant fills out the necessary experience audit forms and references are checked.
Base - 26/Hr
Skilled & Safe on the Skid Steer/ compaction equipment ( minimum 50hrs combined + crew approval)- +1hr
Skilled & Safe on the Excavator/Dual Axle Trailers (50hrs on excavator, 25hrs on 2 axle trailer + crew approval) +1/hr
85% or better on aptitude test - +1/hr
FLEX RAISE - Has spent 2yrs working at company OR has completed a training program in whichever skill they need most help learning (ISA arborist, QWEL irrigation program, CMHI masonry program, NALP Landscape Technician irrigation, installation, and maintenance cert) +2/hr for each or 1/Hr per year
Top pay - 32/hr
A technician is a “skilled laborer” - meaning, not only can produce great work unsupervised, but they understand the “why’s” and the “how’s” of their processes. Technicians have typically worked for us, or a competitor for 2-4+ years and can interpret a work order or plans, take precise, accurate measurements with all stocked measuring tools, and satisfactorily repair and install plants, paved areas, fencing, drains, walls, edging, sod, turf, irrigation, and certain light fixtures with minimal supervision. A technician should meet or exceed accepted production rates for these items about 80% of the time or more.
Journeymen can be trusted to be safe with the trucks and our trailers,, and purchase small goods, parts, and components to complete their work. Journeymen understand and demonstrate truck safety and trailer safety, and can secure loads, lumber, pipes, and equipment in transport.
