Information Technology Support Specialist

Big Stone County is seeking an Information Technology Support Specialist to work on-site at the Ortonville Government Office. This is a regular, full-time position within the IT Department, scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. It is a Grade 8 position with a 2025 hourly wage range of $25.99–$34.10/hr, and includes a full County benefits package.

This position provides front-line technical support and helps analyze, maintain, and improve the County’s IT systems. Key responsibilities include assisting with system upgrades, supporting cloud-based tools, maintaining user access and documentation, and helping departments use technology more effectively. The support specialist also supports compliance with data privacy standards and works closely with the IT Director on technology planning and implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field and three years of relevant experience, or equivalent education and experience

Valid Driver’s License

Must pass an extensive background check

General understanding of networking, cloud tools, and system administration

Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies

Certifications such as A+, Network+, or Security+ preferred

Must complete continuing education to stay current with County systems and industry standards

Additional Information:

Serve as the first point of contact for staff needing technical assistance

Support the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computers, printers, and mobile devices

Regular weekday hours with occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work

Travel to various County sites using a County vehicle several times per month

Must be comfortable providing in-person and remote support, including training and documentation

This position is a contacted service position between Big Stone County and Countryside Public Health; current contract is valid until 2028.

This position is on site in Ortonville, Minnesota, and is not eligible for remote work.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future immigration support.
