PACO Group is teaming with WMATA to provide on-site structural engineering expertise for track-related assets. As a Structural Field Engineer, you will conduct detailed inspections of bridges, tunnels, culverts, and station platforms; collect and interpret field data (measurements, nondestructive test results, visual observations); and collaborate with maintenance crews to define repair scopes. Your on-site assessments and technical recommendations will be critical inputs to WMATA's maintenance-of-way modernization and ensure the continued safety and reliability of transit infrastructure.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Perform daily field inspections of structural elements-bridges, retaining walls, culverts, platforms-documenting conditions per WMATA inspection protocols

Collect measurement and nondestructive test data (ultrasonic thickness, rebar cover, crack monitoring) and interpret results in situ

Prepare field inspection reports, photo logs, and preliminary condition assessments

Liaise with maintenance crews to coordinate temporary shoring, traffic control, and safe access during inspections

Recommend immediate remedial actions for critical defects and develop scopes for longer-term repairs

Input field data into WMATA's asset-management and inspection databases

Qualifications

Bachelor's in Civil or Structural Engineering (or approved equivalent)

3 years' field-inspection experience on heavy-civil or rail-infrastructure projects

Familiarity with nondestructive test methods and inspection equipment

Proficient with mobile reporting tools and Microsoft Office

Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and field-communication skills
