Location: Lehigh, PA Hybrid (Tues–Thurs onsite)
Contract Duration: 12 months W2 contract with potential for extension or conversion to full time employment status
Targeted Pay: $70.00 -- $75.00/hour + medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Protection Settings Engineer III to develop, maintain, and optimize protection settings for distribution systems. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in fault analysis, coordination, and relay settings with hands-on expertise in SEL and S&C protective devices.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain distribution protection settings in alignment with system reliability and safety standards.
Perform fault studies, coordination studies, and relay setting calculations.
Configure SEL protective relays (models 351, 551, 651, 751, etc.) and S&C Tripsavers.
Utilize software tools such as CYMDIST, CAPE, ASPEN, and Powerbase for system modeling, analysis, and protection studies.
Review and interpret system one-line diagrams, protection schemes, and relay logic to ensure proper configuration.
Collaborate with field engineers and utility operations teams to validate and implement protection schemes.
Support remote commissioning and troubleshooting of protection systems.
Maintain accurate documentation and records of protection settings and relay configurations.
Must-Have Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
5+ years of experience in distribution protection engineering.
Strong understanding of protection principles, fault analysis, and coordination.
Proficiency with CYMDIST, CAPE, ASPEN, and Powerbase.
Excellent communication, analytical, and documentation skills.
Nice-to-Have Experience
Prior work supporting remote commissioning or troubleshooting of protection systems.
Familiarity with legacy relay platforms.
Experience collaborating with field engineers or utility operations teams.
