All in All driver education instructors shall meet the requirements established by the State

Board of Education; provided, however, driver education instructors shall not be required to hold teacher certificates. Any instructor providing instruction shall be properly licensed or certified by the appropriate agency (listed below). To remain current, instructors must maintain a certification through the DMV or DPI.

Qualifications

An instructor must meet the following minimum criteria to qualify for employment as a certified driver training instructor:

at least 21 years old with a high school diploma or a high school equivalency certificate

be of good moral character;

at least four years of licensed driving experience;

within three years of applying, must not have received seven or more points from convictions of moving violations;

within four years of applying, must not have had a revocation or suspension of driver license

completed an accepted driver education teacher course as approved by DPI or the DMV

maintain a valid DPI teaching license or DMV certification

Driving Records

PSUs shall implement a process of reviewing driving records of teachers on an annual basis. Any teacher who receives a conviction of three or more points and/or any conviction that may result in suspension or revocation of their license shall report this incident to the PSU immediately.
