Role Summary
The Faculty General Manager reports to the Dean of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation and provides executive leadership for the Faculty’s operational services. In a hybrid environment at North Campus Edmonton, the incumbent delivers strategic planning, operational excellence, budgeting, facilities, risk management, and communications to support the Faculty’s teaching, research, and community engagement objectives.
Responsibilities
Act as a strategic advisor to the Dean and Faculty leadership team, leading strategic planning initiatives and providing expert analysis and solutions based on an in-depth understanding of the Faculty’s core mission, vision and strategic objectives.
Provide a confidential sounding board for the Dean, supports the implementation of Faculty-level strategic direction and objectives.
Lead the implementation of initiatives and contribute to projects that have Faculty-wide impacts, leveraging project and change management skills and working directly with applicable Service Partners.
Manage the team that provides administrative executive support to Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Deans and facilities management and event support.
Work with Finance to oversee the Faculty’s budget and financial operations, ensuring initiatives are planned, monitored and controlled and that resources are responsibly used.
Oversee risk and compliance management for the Faculty, aligning monitoring and reporting with the University’s Risk Management Strategy.
Manage and review the Faculty’s building, facilities and other specialized infrastructure, designing and implementing solutions to operational challenges and driving continuous improvements.
Facilitate effective internal communication across the Faculty to ensure a consistent understanding of key priorities.
Demonstrate persuasive, engaging, clear and credible communication to gain support and commitment in varied situations from a wide variety of audiences.
Chair the KSR Health and Safety Committee and manage health and safety protocols and plan in the Faculty.
Qualifications
Advanced degree in business or management (e.g., MBA) or a Faculty relevant content area (e.g., kinesiology, leisure studies) with 5-10 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with 10 plus years of relevant experience.
Significant hands on experience in short and long term strategic planning, project management, public relations, stakeholder and internal communications, and issues management, preferably in a public, educational, or post secondary context.
Experience with recommending strategies and proposals regarding budget allocations/reallocations and the distribution of resources to support new budget priorities.
Experience in space management and facilities planning.
Outstanding planning and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to establish and communicate a long term strategic vision and manage large scale resources in a large, complex organization.
Ability to engage in proactive decision making with attention to detail in planning and implementation.
Proven ability to work consultatively and collaboratively with team members from different areas of expertise and with senior administrators in an organization.
Experience in project management, business process reviews, and change management.
Extensive knowledge of the University of Alberta policies, procedures, and operating requirements.
