Job Summary
Performs limited clinical diagnostic procedures for patients with sleep related disorders. Administration of oxygen or positive airway pressure must be under the direct supervision of a registered polysomnographer. Other duties may include scoring, community education, marketing and inventory management.
Essential Functions
Prepares for the arrival of the patient by setting up and preparing the equipment for the ordered test
Interviews patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures
Performs testing and any additional testing required for sleep disorder that is noted
Scores, interprets, and reports results of sleep studies
Educates patients about test results, sleep disorders, community support groups, and available resources
Prepares, calibrates, repairs, and maintains equipment required for testing
Determines and reports needed repairs and replacements
Maintains proper supplies to care for patients
Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, patient families, laboratory staff, physicians, and other members of the hospital staff
Monitors the patient throughout the night, observing cardiac rhythm and respiration of abnormalities

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
Qualifications
Education
Graduate of accredited Polysomnography program required
Graduate of JRCRTE and AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy preferred
Licenses/Certifications
None required
Experience
3-5 years experience as a polysomnographic technician required.
