POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Middle School Science Teacher is a member of the Science teaching team in the Middle School (MS) and an active teacher in the MS Mentoring and Electives programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Science program details
Teach MS Science classes in Grade 6, 7, and/or 8, ensuring robust coverage of the NGSS standards, using Open SciEd as a primary resource
Collaborate with the Science department, administration, and Office of Learning to maintain an articulated curriculum
Teaching practice
Teach MS Science classes, ensuring robust coverage of both NGSS standards.
Provide deep, integrated learning opportunities that support the development of character, skills, and conceptual knowledge
Incorporate active learning where students are engaged directly in analyzing, designing, and testing skills and practices
Implement evidence-based best practices, including Tier 1 supports and differentiation to meet needs of all learners
Teach and assess Middle School students using a standards-based curriculum
Co-plan and Co-teach with support teachers
Co-plan and Co-teach with support teachers and a homeroom / Mentoring partner
Use positive approaches to student behavior management, effectively approaching student misbehaviors as learning opportunities
Support school culture and be an advocate for positive “Dragon Spirit”
Support whole child development as a MS Mentoring (Advisory) teacher, including collaboratively running Homeroom and participating in school Experiential Learning trips
Schoolwide practice
Ensure approach with students, colleagues, and the community reflects and supports multiple forms of diversity
Support schoolwide collaboration through formal and informal engagement with others, sharing ideas and strategies, and participating in school development efforts
Collaborate with the Science department, administration, and Office of Learning to maintain an articulated curriculum and strong pedagogy
Lead or be involved in school events, and lead/support co-curricular programming
Professional practice
Take ownership for own professional development: set goals, take action and grow as an educator with the goal of improved student outcomes
Engage in professional reflection based on data, to think about, receive input on, and make changes to own practice
Proactively involve parents in their child’s education, including regular communications focusing both on the class curriculum and student progress
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree
Current, relevant teaching certification/licensure
Minimum of five years of successful full-time teaching experience as a Science teacher, with experience teaching at the Middle School level
Experience with NGSS and Open SciEd are strongly preferred
Full proficiency in the English language

Demonstrated commitment to DEIJ and supporting our international community
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 digital suite preferred
