We are looking to hire for the position of Elementary School Counselor for the 2026–2027 school year, according to the following skills and qualifications.

Reports to: Elementary School Principal and Director of Student Support Services

Time commitment: Full-time

The position

The focus of elementary school counseling at Nido is on proactive and preventive education. The counselor provides professional guidance to elementary school students, families and staff in the area of social emotional learning and well being to instill in students the skills to manage emotions, build healthy interpersonal relationships with peers and adults, and develop responsible decision making to navigate their digital world.

Qualifications and Experience

Relevant degree in Psychology/Counseling from an accredited university/ college

5+ years of school counseling experience, preferably in international schools

Experience working with and understanding young learners and their development

Cross-cultural experience and understanding of the unique needs of an international school context

Proficiency with educational technology

High proficiency in English required

High proficiency in Spanish preferred

Effective listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly and kindly both verbally and in writing

The ability to collaborate with others and consider alternate perspectives

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrates multicultural, ethical and professional competencies in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the comprehensive school counseling program

Organizes preventive education programs for both students and families

Supports teachers to integrate the divisional social and emotional curriculum into the academic curriculum

Coordinates and implements individual or short term small group counseling (e.g. crisis intervention, peer mediation, personal growth, etc.) based on identified needs

Engages with students by observing social interactions, and developing relationships during non-instructional times,

Works collaboratively with teachers to identify and develop strategies to support students

Provides in-service professional learning for staff and families around Social Emotional Learning

Supports Nido’s Admissions Process and assists with the transition of new and withdrawing students (i.e. Student Ambassadors Program)

Coordinates referrals for students and/or families to specialists and professionals in the community (e.g., mental health, educational development, medical assessment etc)

Assists in school crisis management planning and safeguarding protocols

Counsels students regarding personal/family concerns (eg, divorce, death, moving)

Participates in the pre-referral and referral process for student of care process and case manages students with identified social-emotional and mental health needs

Participates in the School and Community Life Committee (Comite Convivencia Escolar)

Is responsive to the needs of students, staff, and parents
