Full job description

The Home Support Worker will provide daily assistance and companionship to a 92-year-old woman living with arthritis, diabetes, and chronic pain. The role focuses on health care support, medication management, personal care, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and emotional well-being. The caregiver is needed to be culturally sensitive, and provide respectful care.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety: Monitor health needs, including pain levels and blood sugar; support mobility; accompany to medical appointments

Medication: Administer medications on schedule; maintain accurate logs; observe and report side effects.

Personal Care: Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and safe transfers while encouraging independence and respect for personal dignity.

Meals & Nutrition: Plan and prepare balanced meals suitable for arthritis/diabetes; encourage hydration and healthy eating.

Household Duties: Perform light cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping including maintaining a safe living environment.

Companionship: Provide meaningful conversation, emotional support, and engagement in daily activities.

Language requirements

English required.

Fluency in Punjabi language is required to communicate effectively with the care recipient, who speaks Punjabi as her primary or only language.

Qualifications & Skills

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision.

Must have the physical and mental ability to perform required job duties.

Ability to treat and care for aging adults and their property with dignity and respect.

Ability to communicate with elderly in a friendly and congenial manner.

Be a good and patient listener in a friendly and polite manner.

Complete Background Check will be done once hired.

Possess a valid BC driver's license and valid auto insurance is a bonus, but not required.

Prior experience caring for elderly individuals with chronic health conditions will be preferred.

Knowledge of arthritis and diabetes care, including dietary and medication needs, will be preferred.

Certification in First Aid/CPR preferred.

Certification in Health Care Aid training preferred.

Compassion, patience, reliability, and respect for dignity and independence.

Strong communication and record-keeping skills.

Schedule

40 hours a week, some evenings may be required.
