Job Title: Electrical Technician Offshore Shutdown Project

Location: Qatar (Offshore North Field, Ras Laffan, Halul Island)

Industry: Oil & Gas (Shutdowns/Turnarounds)

Employment Type: Contract (3-6 months, extendable)

Rotation: 42/42 (extended projects)

Job Description:

The Electrical Technician performs installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems during offshore shutdowns, ensuring safe and efficient operations in hazardous environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Shutdown Electrical Works:

Execute preventive/corrective maintenance on HV/LV systems (switchgear, transformers, motors, UPS).

Install/test cable trays, conduits, junction boxes, and lighting systems.

Troubleshoot motor control circuits, VFDs, and protection relays.

Follow QatarEnergy (QP) electrical safety rules (LOTO, arc flash prevention).

Conduct insulation resistance (IR), megger, and continuity tests.

Perform loop checks, relay calibration, and thermographic inspections.

Assist in energization/de-energization of critical systems.

Update electrical logs, test reports, and as-built drawings.

Report defects using CMMS (SAP, Maximo).

Work with instrumentation/mechanical teams for integrated shutdown tasks.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Trade Certification.

Certifications (Mandatory):

COMPEX (Ex01-Ex04) for hazardous areas.

BOSIET/HUET, OPITO H2S/BA.

HV/LV Switching Certification.

5+ years in offshore oil & gas electrical maintenance, with 3+ years in shutdowns.

Familiarity with QP, Shell, or TotalEnergies standards.

Proficiency in PLC basics, motor controls, and electrical drawings.

Knowledge of IEC/API/NEC standards.

Market Wage in Qatar (2025):

Daily Rate: $300/day (varies by certifications):

Junior Technicians: $300/day (contractors).

Senior Technicians (COMPEX Certified): $450/day (QP/Qatargas projects).

Rotation & Work Conditions:

Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts (day/night), 7 days/week during shutdown peaks.

Demand: High due to Qatars LNG expansion and aging facility upgrades.
