The Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is seeking a dynamic and creative Marketing and Communications Specialist. This position plays a key role in shaping and executing strategies to promote and communicate the impact of the department’s mission in teaching, research and Extension. This role reports to the Department Chair and collaborates with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to develop engaging narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Strategy:
Oversee all departmental digital and print marketing and communications, ensuring content is aligned with the department's mission. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop and showcase departmental accomplishments. Write articles, press releases, and promotional materials to highlight key events, research, and department achievements. Develop strategies to repurpose existing content and engage alumni, students, and stakeholders. Assist with departmental annual reporting, communicating the impact of the department,
Recruitment and Student Engagement Marketing
Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies for student recruitment. Create promotional materials for prospective students, ensuring content highlights the strengths of the department's programs and research, along with student engagement opportunities. Work with faculty and staff to identify key recruitment opportunities and craft messaging to attract prospective students to the department.
Web and Social Media Management
Lead the development of web content, including storytelling and strategic narrative creation. Manage the department’s website, social media platforms, and newsletters to maintain a consistent digital presence. Analyze web traffic and social media engagement using analytics tools to adjust and optimize communication strategies.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Education:
Master's degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or related field.
Required Experience:
2 years' experience in journalism, communications, marketing, or related fields; ability to lead communications initiatives and content creation, including website management; experience with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies; must be collaborative and work well in a diverse team-oriented environment with superior verbal and written communications skills
Desired Experience:
Expertise in writing and editing across multiple styles and media; experience in web content management systems (CMS)

Position pay range- $51,500.00 - $67,250.00/annual.
The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications
