The Podiatry Nurse will support foot health and lower extremity care for individuals with diabetes, circulatory disorders, neuropathy, chronic wounds, and other conditions commonly seen in underserved populations.
Position Summary
The Podiatry Nurse provides direct patient care, preventive screenings, and wound management services under the supervision of a podiatrist or primary care provider. This role will integrate foot care services with chronic care, case management, and outreach programs, focusing on early detection, treatment, and prevention of complications.
The nurse will work with a multidisciplinary team including APRNs, physicians, CHWs, patient navigators, and outreach staff.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive foot assessments and screenings for patients with chronic conditions (e.g., Diabetes mellitus type 2, Peripheral artery disease, neuropathy, etc.).
Provide wound care, dressing changes, and monitoring of healing progress under standing orders or podiatrist guidance.
Educate patients on foot hygiene, nail care, pressure offloading, and preventive strategies to avoid infection or amputation.
Coordinate referrals to podiatry or specialty care when needed.
Assist in performing or preparing patients for podiatric procedures.
Document all interventions in the electronic health record for billing and quality reporting.
Collaborate with chronic care management and behavioral health teams to support whole-person care.
Participate in outreach clinics, health fairs, and patient education events focused on foot health and chronic disease prevention.
Identify high-risk patients for early intervention and follow-up.
Qualifications
Required:
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kentucky.
Clinical experience in wound care, podiatry, or chronic disease management.
Knowledge of foot health protocols for diabetic and vascular patients.
Preferred:
Certified Wound Care Nurse (WCC, CWOCN, or similar).
Experience working in community/public health settings.
Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid podiatry billing requirements.
Bilingual abilities or cultural competency.
Contractor Pay Range
Hourly Rate: $35.00 – $45.00 per hour
LPN: $35.00 – $40.00/hr
RN / Wound Care Certified: $40.00 – $45.00/hr
Competitive based on experience, certifications, and procedure volume.
