Process Development Scientist (Downstream)

Piper Companies is seeking a Downstream Scientist, Process Development to support the development, optimization, and scale-up of purification processes for biologics manufacturing with a pharmaceutical company near Frederick, MD.

Responsibilities for the Downstream Scientist include: * Design, execute, and analyze experiments to develop robust downstream processes for recombinant protein and biologics purification.

* Optimize chromatography steps (e.g., affinity, ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction) and filtration processes to ensure high purity and yield.

* Support scale-up and tech transfer of downstream processes from bench to pilot and GMP manufacturing.

* Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Upstream Development, Analytical Development, MS&T, and Quality.

* Author and review technical documentation including development reports, protocols, and risk assessments.

* Troubleshoot purification process issues and provide technical support to manufacturing operations.

* Ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA, EMA, and other global regulatory standards.

Qualifications for the Downstream Scientist include: * 3+ years of experience in downstream process development or related biopharmaceutical roles.

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or related field.

* Hands-on experience with protein purification using AKTA systems and scalable chromatography platforms.

* Strong understanding of protein chemistry, bioprocess engineering, and regulatory requirements.

* Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab, Excel).
