Summary and Objectives:

As a Material Handler, the employee is responsible for removing loads from outfeed areas and accurately marking loads for identification and inventory purposes. Material Handlers are also responsible for safely transporting and stacking loads in proper storage locations until ready for shipment and moving those shipments from within the warehouse to be loaded/unloaded onto trucks and/or railcars without damaging the product.

Understand all company procedures, policies, and practices that is relevant to job position
Must comply with all safety and OSHA regulations, including lock-out/tag-out procedures within the department
Handle veneer and/or plywood in a manner which ensures that product damage is kept to a minimum
Licensed to operate a forklift in a safe manner
Maintain forklift, equipment, and materials to alleviate damage and cost
Demonstrate a sense of urgency when dealing with line stops or abnormal plant conditions
Efficiently and safely unload the outfeed area of the department
Accurately and legibly mark loads of veneer to ensure proper identification and inventory management
Accurately and legibly record and complete all required paperwork for production and quality
Safely transports and stacks all loads in proper storage location evenly and in a straight column to maintain warehouse(s) and prevent product damage
Efficiently and safely loads the infeed area of the department
Practice FIFO when pulling veneer from the warehouse to ensure proper rotation
Identify and differentiate the different grades and thickness of veneer/plywood, product stamps, and stamp changes, as well as the different packaging needs
Inspect each unit to ensure that the tags match the trademark stamp on units
Accurately count panels rapidly in units to ensure proper piece counts for shipment
Ability to identify bad or damaged panels in units and remove them
Loads and unloads veneer and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting during transit
Performs load-building, by determining the appropriate weight, composition, and placement of load based on customer order and capacity of delivery vehicle to ensure load is balanced and safe for hauling
Read work orders or follow oral instructions to determine materials to be moved or loaded
Safely and efficiently transports veneer loads to and from Layup line and designate storage
Attach properly dated tags or labels to veneer
Ability to respond quickly to all upset conditions within the department
Communicate all safety, quality, and processing issues with Supervisor
Employee must also perform any duty deemed necessary by management
Material Handlers who can perform these duties safely and effectively allows for the mill to run smoothly. It is imperative that each employee does his or her job to the utmost of their ability.

Able to use hands and arms to grasp, push, pull, reach, or lift at, to the side of, or above shoulder level
Able to work safely around moving mechanical equipment and nip points

Must be able to work long hours sitting in one position
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently
Must be able to push and pull approximately 25 to 50 pounds frequently
Able to monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems
Able to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibrations in which certain PPE is required
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Capable of working in hot and/or cold environments.
Able to work beyond or less than normally scheduled work hours.
Subject to mandatory testing for drugs and/or alcohol on a random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up basis.
Responsible for wearing the required PPE for each job tasks as specified.
Responsible for conducting a pre-shift inspection on forklifts, when in operation, prior to the start of the shift or operation of forklift.
Education and Experience
Required:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Basic Math and English skills
1-2 years prior experience on Forklift
Desired:
1. Prior experience in manufacturing or wood products experience is ideal
2. Licensed to operate a forklift
