Job Summary: The Custodial Maintenance Technician is responsible for effectively performing custodial services and maintenance operations within one or more assigned City facilities while upholding the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, functionality, and operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Custodial Maintenance Technician I: ($36,486 - $45,500) * Performs cleaning, custodial services, and minor maintenance tasks within City facilities to ensure cleanliness and overall upkeep of assigned City facilities.

* Sweeps, mops, vacuums, polishes, dusts, scrubs, scours and sanitizes restrooms, offices, and common areas, ensuring a hygienic environment within assigned City facilities.

* Operates essential cleaning equipment such as buffers, floor scrubbers, and vacuums, ensuring efficient and effective results.

* Adheres to established cleaning schedules, protocols, and assigned tasks to maintain consistency and high-quality standards.

* Utilizes proper cleaning techniques and chemicals to prevent damage to surfaces, furniture and equipment.

* May assist with setting up and breaking down tables, chairs, and equipment for events or meetings.

* Provides excellent customer service when engaging with visitors and staff, fostering a welcoming and well-maintained environment.

* Operates a city-owned vehicle to travel safety and efficiently between service locations, ensuring timely, efficient, and consistent facility maintenance.

* Ensures compliance with all health and safety standards, including hazardous material handling.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Custodial Maintenance Technician II: ($42,500 - $43,779) * Performs all duties of Custodial Maintenance Technician I.

In addition: * Collaborates with the Custodial Maintenance Lead to conduct routine facility inspections to ensure facilities are in optimal condition, reporting and addressing any custodial or maintenance issues promptly.

* Assists the Custodial Maintenance Lead with inventory management of custodial materials and supplies to include ordering, tracking, and stock replenishment to support uninterrupted operations.

* Assists with the coordination and execution of deep-cleaning schedules for carpets, windows, and high traffic areas, enhancing facility hygiene and appearance.

* Assists with maintaining records of custodial activities, inspections, quality reviews and work orders to support operational efficiency.

May also assist with training new custodial maintenance technicians.

* Ensures proper storage, handling, and usage of cleaning agents and custodial equipment in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - Custodial Maintenance Technician I: * High school diploma or equivalent required.

* Must possess a valid South Dakota driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire.

* General custodial and maintenance experience preferred.

* Ability to follow schedules, meet deadlines, and maintain efficiency in assigned tasks while collaborating with other members of the team.

Qualifications - Custodial Maintenance Technician II: * Must meet all Custodial Maintenance Technician I requirements plus one year of general custodial and maintenance experience required.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat, wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment varies which can include moderate to loud.

Additionally, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to climb, lean or balance.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
