JOB TITLE CONSTRUCTION STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (TRUSS SPECIALIST) NATURE OF JOB FULL TIME INDUSTRY SALARY KSHS.35,000 -45,000 JOB LOCATION MOMBASA ROAD DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Truss System Design and Engineering Develop accurate and efficient designs for timber and/or steel truss systems based on architectural and structural requirements.
Conduct structural analysis to determine appropriate materials, load paths, connection details, and support conditions.
Prepare detailed engineering drawings, layouts, and fabrication sheets using structural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, MiTek, etc.). Ensure truss systems are compliant with local and international codes, safety standards, and engineering best practices.
Optimize designs for cost-efficiency, ease of installation, and structural performance.
Structural Analysis and Technical Calculations Perform detailed calculations for load-bearing capacity, deflection, stress, and vibration of truss structures.
Evaluate the impact of environmental loads such as wind, seismic forces, and live/dead loads on structural systems.
Generate structural reports and documentation to support design decisions and for submission to regulatory bodies.
Project Coordination and Collaboration Work closely with architects, civil engineers, quantity surveyors, and contractors to integrate truss systems seamlessly into the overall building design.
Participate in design review meetings, site coordination sessions, and project briefings.
Resolve structural conflicts or design discrepancies through collaboration with stakeholders.
Ensure timely delivery of truss drawings and documentation for project deadlines.
Site Support and Quality Assurance Visit project sites during installation to ensure proper handling and erection of truss systems as per design specifications.
Conduct structural inspections and assessments during and after installation to verify compliance with design.
Address and resolve technical issues arising on-site, making real-time adjustments where necessary.
Training and Technical Guidance Provide hands-on training and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and installation crews on truss system design and installation.
Develop training materials, technical manuals, and standard procedures for in-house staff and site teams.
Promote best practices in safety, material handling, and structural reliability across all project phases.
Documentation and Compliance Maintain up-to-date design files, calculations, and project documentation for future reference and auditing.
Prepare structural engineering reports, method statements, and compliance documents as required by clients or regulatory authorities.
Ensure all documentation meets internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation Stay updated with emerging trends, materials, and technologies in structural and truss engineering.
Recommend innovative solutions to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and enhance structural integrity.
Contribute to internal R&D efforts related to modular structures, prefabrication, and sustainable truss systems.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field Minimum of 3 years of proven experience specializing in structural truss systems Strong understanding of timber and/or steel truss design, fabrication, and installation Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, MiTek, etc.) Knowledge of relevant Kenyan Building Codes and international structural standards Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects concurrently Experience in training and mentoring technicians is an added advantage HOW TO APPLY If you meet the above qualifications, skills and experience share CV on Interviews will be carried out on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
