Principal Engineer - Technical Specialist - Data Quality
The purpose of this role within Naval Ships, is to lead product data readiness and delivery for production and planning, including co-ordination of the electronic data transfers between BAE Systems Naval Ships and River Class Destroyer prime contractor shipyard (and other industry partners as required).
Situated within the Delivery organisation the role will work closely with design, delivery, and Office of the Chief Engineer to carry out data quality exception management processes to enable accurate translation of the design data for production and planning during Implementation phase of RCD. This includes working within the product data management and reporting tools environments to execute or directly support resolution of data quality issues (DQIs) on the programme to support programme schedule.
This lead role will form part of Data Readiness and Delivery team operating as the main point of contact for industry partners for product data transfer and data quality resolution, developing agreed detailed cross-company processes, ensuring customer needs are met, and promoting a continuous improvement approach. The role will be responsible for leading data preparation tasks to support business processes.
Your main responsibilities as Principal Engineer - Technical Specialist - Data Quality will be to:
· Lead process steps to support data transfers to industry partners, e.g. Bill of Materials, 3D CAD Model, Change Packages (working with document control PLM Capability Centre design zone integration change, configuration, detail design export control and chief engineer technical authorities)
· Drive documentation of formal business processes for data transfer, readiness, and quality for data types as required by RCD contract
· Lead within the Data Readiness and Delivery team as part of a continuous collaborative effort with industry partners, including weekly drumbeat, for transfer activities and data quality issue resolution
· Lead actions associated with data quality and/or transfer issue resolution (exception management), e.g. update of product data attribution (within governance rules)
· Operate and document requirements / demand for data ‘BI’ reporting capability (e.g. Tableau) to run reports, update metrics, to support performance measurement against transfer schedule, right-first time, and issue detection and ‘burn down’ (inc. DQIs)
· Support work to test new toolset and Digital Data and Cyber (DDC) capability, (including supporting development of RCD Automated Gateway between BAE and ISI)
· Provide material to support Weekly Stand-Up Meetings (WSUM), and programme performance reviews, including Control Account reviews
· Collaborate with the Engineering and Quality Functions in the development of key processes for Naval Ships programmes
Your skills and qualifications:
· Degree qualified, or equivalent level experience, in an Engineering or Data related discipline.
· Experience in Data Management, transfer, Bill of Material and document management, or Quality Assurance roles and delivery management
· Chartered Status with appropriate professional institution or working towards a mature application
· Working practice knowledge of company-to-company data transfer processes
· Knowledge of engineering lifecycle and governance of complex products, e.g. detail design transition into build
· Strong focus on Quality, measurement, and process adherence, including process mapping skills
· Working knowledge of key engineering toolsets, e.g. Windchill, CAD, Dashboards, Business Reporting
· Strong understanding of key systems engineering principles and integrity of information
· Working knowledge of warship or large complex product (‘System of Systems’) design processes and inter-relationships and design delivery would be advantageous
