Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of 160 Hour Appointment - TRIO McNair Program Mentor. The 160 hour appointment housed in the Division of Student Affairs' Center for Educational Opportunity Programs will work with individual students and in small groups to support academic, professional, personal, creative projects and create content that engages with students through varies modalities including social media platforms, recorded academic content. Mentors will collaboratively facilitate writing and presentation consultations, provide feedback for essays, reports, research papers, speaking/presentations, and assist emerging and advanced scholars with the development of written and visual presentation strategies and competencies as well as develop their confidence as future graduate school students.

TRIO McNair is seeking highly motivated candidates who value all forms of communication and who want to help others develop their literacy skills and prepare for graduate school. The program provides a supportive work environment and encourages our student employees to develop skills that support them in their own learning and toward developing professional skills to meet their long-term goals.

Core Responsibilities:

Facilitate individual and small group consultations utilizing various modalities.

Use a collaborative and student-centered approach during consultations .

Ensure NSU protocols and processes are followed to guide work.

Value the development of communication skills for academic, personal, and professional interactions.

Ensure FERPA and other regulatory edicts are adhered to as mandated.

Complete required federal and institutional trainings which include in-person and online synchronous and asynchronous trainings.

Participate and or lead regularly scheduled workshops throughout each semester.

Serve as social media lead for the program.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ninety or more college credit hours completed.

Possess strong writing and speaking skills within their respective discipline.

Have demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Possess the ability to work with students from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Biology, Business, Economics, Psychology, Geology, Community Health Sciences, or Nursing.

Previous experience working with undergraduate students.

Work Hours:

This position will work 6-15 hours per week.

Hourly Rate:

$15.00 - $18.00 per hour.
