School- Based Facilities Maintenance Worker

Part-Time/Non-Exempt

Location: North Bergen, NJ

Compensation Rate: $25.00/per hour *$50 per hour for on call alarms

Reports to: School Principal

Position Summary:

The Facilities Maintenance Worker will be responsible for maintaining both the indoor and outdoor school property to support an environment that is safe and in working order for students and staff as well as visitors to the building. The Facilities Maintenance Worker would also be on call for building alarms.

North Hudson Academy, a First Children School, is a New Jersey Department of Education approved private special education school, serving students from PreK through high school. Our school offers programs for students with behavioral/emotional issues, preschool handicapped and learners on the Autism Spectrum.

Job Responsibilities:

Assure safety during inclement weather including shoveling, salting, slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, snow removal from stairs, walkways and all egress and access areas.

Pick up litter on location grounds.

Change lightbulbs as needed.

Attend to all simple fixes in and out of the school building.

Hang pictures, bulletin boards etc. as needed.

Move small furniture and tend to any minor adjustments as needed.

Touch up small paint jobs.

Unclog toilets if possible unless a plumber is needed

On call for building alarms and responding if needed

Maintain tools and equipment in good condition

Communicate need for supplies to office coordinator.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Team:

This role will be part of the maintenance team, reporting to the school principal.

Basic Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience working as a maintenance worker

Must be able to read, write and understand English

Must possess interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships, with co-workers, visitors and students.

Must display a professional attitude.

Strong work ethic with attention to detail

Self-starter with a desire to be proactive in response to job responsibilities.

Must possess the ability to be physically mobile, with or without reasonable accommodations, so the requirements of the position can be fully met.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
