Job Summary
Directs and coordinates activities of whey production areas in processing raw materials and manufacturing customer specific products.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the total operation of the shift.
Maintain a working knowledge of all Whey Department functions, jobs, responsibilities, and SOP's.
Ensures adherence to production schedule.
Leader of daily crew meetings that include issues such as: safety, quality, and production.
Addresses minor discipline problems with team members; refers more serious cases to warehouse manager.
Assists with planning and preparation of training and orientation for new whey team members.
Responsible for completed chemical checks and ensuring that the information is recorded in the computer.
Ensures adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices.
Responsible for running machinery and troubleshooting problems.
Creates KPI reports and troubleshoots quality issues.
Monitors hiring, training of new hires, employee morale and development.
Ensures adherence to safety principles and practices.
Train employees regarding SOP's, GMP's, proper sanitation, safe work practices, good housekeeping, etc. and enforce these policies and practices throughout the department.
Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance).
Complies with all company food safety policies and procedures (including Good Manufacturing Practices).
Responsible for providing food safety and quality feedback to appropriate manager.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of three years of experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Ability to perform all whey operator duties.
Strong people management experience, including developing, coaching, and training others.
Ability to influence upward, laterally, and downward without any direct line authority.
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or HR.
Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects simultaneously and delegate assignments to others.
Punctual and regular attendance is required.
Proficient computer knowledge.
English skills must be proficient to understand, read, write, and speak.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
Physical Requirements:
Physical effort is regularly required.
May be trained and required to operate a forklift.
Ascending or descending ramps, stairs, ladders and/or scaffolding.
Frequently involves crouching, stooping, kneeling and/or climbing or balancing.
Frequently involves lifting more than 50 lbs.
Typical Environmental Conditions:
Works in a food processing manufacturing facility with moderate noise.
May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e., production equipment, forklifts, heavy traffic).
May be exposed to humidity, intense heat and cold, outdoor weather conditions, and fumes and toxic chemicals.
May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.
May be exposed to ingredients that may cause allergic reactions and may be exposed to various allergen ingredients.
