Employment Opportunity
Under the direct supervision of the Youth Recreation Supervisor, the Youth and Family Programming Assistant is responsible for supporting the planning and execution of youth programs. This role involves working closely with instructors and staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, assist in developing curriculum, support summer staff recruitment and training, and contribute to a positive, engaging environment for youth participants.
Essential Functions of Work
Assist in the daily operations of youth programs and camps, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
Collaborate on curriculum development and support the implementation of engaging activities.
Uphold and enforce safety procedures; respond to emergencies in accordance with established protocols.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of program spaces and storage areas.
Seek out new vendor opportunities for programming, assisting with setting up contracts and tracking required paperwork for vendors.
Perform administrative duties such as participant check-ins, registration, and record-keeping using RecTrac software.
Support training efforts for youth and camp staff; assist with supervision and day-to-day oversight.
Promptly report any facility maintenance or safety issues to appropriate staff.
Deliver courteous, professional customer service; address and resolve inquiries or concerns from the public.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff, including the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Program Manager, Deputy Director, or Director of Recreation and Parks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong background in youth engagement and programming.
Proven ability to lead teams and enforce safety protocols.
Proficiency with RecTrac or similar recreational management software.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Experience in handling emergency situations and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to industry best practices.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
21 years of age or older.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth.
At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience in a youth setting.
Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certification (training may be provided by employer).
Preferred Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience working in a summer camp environment.
1-2 years of experience in program planning and implementation.
WELL MEMBERSHIP
Part-time employees are eligible to enroll in the employee Well membership program. This program allows employees to receive an individual Well membership if they meet the program's quarterly goal.
RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Retirement System (OPERS) and the employee contributes 10%.
PERSONAL LEAVE
Part-time employees who have worked for a minimum of 1,000 hours during the prior calendar year for the City, shall be eligible for forty (40) hours of paid personal leave each year. Part-time employees who have worked less than 1,000 hours but more than 500 hours in the previous calendar year for the City shall be eligible for twenty-four (24) hours of paid personal leave each year.
