About us:

At Lockheed Martin Australia, we believe that when people are empowered, inspired, and supported, they can achieve extraordinary things. We embrace flexibility, so our people can be their best inside and outside of work. We champion inclusion and continuous learning, ensuring all voices are heard and valued. And we thrive on collaboration, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation. As a leader in national security, our innovative and diverse programs create a more secure future for Australia across space, air, land, sea, and cyber domains. Every day is a chance to solve the world’s most complex challenges and make a profound impact. Experience it here.

About the program:

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

Your responsibilities will include:

Join a world-class team contributing to one of Australia’s most significant Defence capability programs — AIR6500, the next-generation Joint Air Battle Management System. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of integrated defence systems through Model-Based Engineering and advanced systems design.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and decompose system and sub-system level requirements into detailed designs within a Model-Based Engineering (MBE) environment.

Define and manage system interfaces and ensure alignment across multiple domains and stakeholders.

Conduct trade studies and design trade-off analyses to optimise solutions against system requirements.

Develop key technical artefacts and documentation such as solution descriptions, requirements definitions, and trade-off reports.

Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across Lockheed Martin and partner organisations to support reviews and project milestones.

Contribute to the development of system designs, requirements, configuration management, and acceptance methodologies at both the system and sub-system levels.

Support bids, estimates, and business development activities for future work.

About you:

You’re an experienced Systems Engineer who thrives in complex, fast-paced environments and enjoys working on leading-edge defence technology. You combine strong technical acumen with collaborative problem-solving skills and a passion for engineering excellence.

To be successful, you will bring:

Tertiary qualifications in Engineering and/or equivalent relevant experience in Defence projects.

Strong understanding of Model-Based Systems Development (MBSD) and Model-Based Engineering (MBE) principles (experience with DoDAF or SysML preferred).

Proficiency with modelling tools such as MagicDraw, Rhapsody, or similar.

Experience developing system designs for large, complex systems and performing design trade-offs at multiple levels.

Demonstrated experience in Agile development environments.

Proficiency in requirements management tools such as DOORS or ETM (Engineering Test Management).

Experience developing test plans, test procedures, and contributing to verification and validation activities.

An active NV-1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information.

Why Join Us?

At Lockheed Martin, you’ll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking environment that values innovation, inclusion, and professional growth. You’ll have opportunities to work alongside some of the brightest minds in Defence and make a meaningful contribution to Australia’s national security.
