About the Role:

The B2B Access Technician plays a key role in delivering high-quality Enterprise services to business clients. This position is responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining dedicated B2B Enterprise solutions over fibre, copper, and wireless circuits. The technician ensures reliable connectivity for DIA, P2P and other data services while providing professional on-site support to business customers.

The role is Dublin/Greater Dublin area based.

Specific Duties & Tasks:

Perform on-site installation and activation of B2B access services (fibre, copper, wireless, leased lines).

Conduct site surveys, cable routing, and infrastructure readiness checks before deployment.

Configuration, Installation and testing of customer premise equipment (CPE) which include Ciena and Cisco switches on the Virgin Media network.

Troubleshoot service issues on-site and remotely, ensuring timely resolution within SLA commitments.

Ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to agreed standards of quality.

Collaborate with B2B Access, splicing, and Project management teams to complete service delivery.

Maintain accurate records of installations, service calls, and test results.

Support the regular software and hardware upgrades for B2B Fibre & Wireless systems across the VMIE footprint

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and telecom industry standards during field activities.

Provide clear communication and technical guidance to business customers during and after installations.

Participate in scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and emergency field support.

Skills & Expertise:

Essential:

Hands-on experience with telecom field installations (fibre splicing, copper cabling, structured cabling)

Strong understanding of network connectivity (TCP/IP, Ethernet, routing basics)

Experience with telecom test equipment (OTDR, power meters, Layer 2 & 3 Network testers, etc.)

Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, fibre maps, and work orders

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

Strong customer service skills with a professional demeanour in client-facing roles

Full Valid Driving Licence

Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications

Desirable:

Diploma or certification in Telecommunications, Networking, or related field

Fiber Optics Technician Certification (CFOT or equivalent)

Cisco CCNA or CompTIA Network+

Safety training certifications (e.g., SafePass, manual handling, First Aid)
