Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position specializing in adult and geriatric oncology care using EPIC EMR and tele monitoring.
Responsibilities
Work in a Med/Surg Tele unit within a hospital
Care for adult and geriatric patients with various cancer diagnoses including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers
Specialized treatments include chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
Staffing ratios typically 1:4, but may be 1:5 depending on unit needs
Night shift position with 12-hour shifts (3x12, 19:00–7:30); day/night rotating shifts may be assigned depending on need
Weekend shifts are variable according to unit requirements
Requires the use of telemetry with responsibilities to monitor and interpret dysrhythmias
Uses EPIC charting; EPIC experience preferred
Orientation includes one week of dayshift classroom training followed by 36 hours of on-unit preceptorship
Provide direct nursing care, administer chemotherapy, monitor telemetry, and manage complex oncology interventions
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and utilize rapid response teams as necessary
Maintain strict infection prevention protocols and patient falls management
Additional responsibilities include feeding tube care, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line maintenance
Self-scheduling requests are considered, but there is no set or blocked scheduling
All time-off requests must be submitted and approved as part of the contract
First week of orientation is Monday through Friday on dayshift; second week is 36 hours of on-unit training with a preceptor
Locals are accepted at the same rate as travelers
Fingerprinting for Ohio is required immediately after contract signing; out-of-state candidates must comply with fingerprinting procedures promptly
Candidates must be responsive and timely with the credentialing process to avoid assignment delays
Requirements
Active OH or compact state RN license in hand at time of consideration
Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele nursing experience required
Current BLS certification required
Experience with oncology nursing procedures such as chemotherapy administration and brachytherapy
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
Ability to accurately interpret and respond to cardiac dysrhythmias
Two professional references required; at least one from a manager, director, or similar leadership position
Preferred: Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy certification
Prior employment with the institution requires a six-month break before eligibility for travel assignments
Current employees at any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible for this travel assignment
