Your responsibilities as a Substitute
KIPP Permanent Substitutes are full-time staff members who are always in the school buildings during the week to fill in for any teacher coverage needs. Their hours are 7:30 - 5pm daily and they attend all meetings and professional development that Lead Teachers and Teaching Fellows attend. If you're someone who wants to get a taste for teaching to see if it's the right career path, this is a great way to dip your toes, gain experience, and be considered for Teaching Fellow or Lead Teacher roles in the future. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Curriculum and Instruction
Adapt and execute a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum
Develop academically rigorous lessons, unit plans, rubrics and assessments
Use data to inform instructional decisions
Provide students with daily feedback on performance and plan for individual learning needs
Help Build a Positive School and Classroom Culture
Embody and maintain school’s values, policies and culture
Develop positive relationships with students, families, teachers and staff
Establish and maintain strong communication with all parents and share progress
Show up for critical school events, including: staff meetings, open houses, parent teacher conferences and more
Demonstrate a Growth Mindset
Give and receive positive and constructive feedback with your colleagues
Participate in school-wide and individual professional developmentRequirements:
Qualifications
An Associate's Degree or 48 completed college credit hours or better
Pass Criminal Background Check
Demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap
Zest, grit, professionalism, and a sense of humor
Preferred Qualifications
The following are not required but are advantageous for candidates:
NC Teaching Licensure - Current or Expired
Experience in teaching in a high performing charter school and/or schools with a high population of students with free and reduced lunch
Fluency in Spanish
