Head of Discipline - Product Integrity

We currently have an opportunity for a Head of Discipline - Product Integrity.

As Head of Discipline – Product Integrity you will lead, develop and grow the Product Integrity Discipline (Product Safety and Product Environmental only) and overall capability that BAE Systems Naval Ships requires to undertake the current and future Programmes. This role is a dual hatted role accountable for having the right number and the right capability of Product Safety and Product Environmental engineers, supported by best practice processes and tools for projects to be able to deliver on their contractual commitments.

You will act as the Professional Head of Product Integrity within BAE Systems Naval Ships and have the leadership responsibility for the strategy, plans, people, tools, processes and management within the Engineering Function. You’ll also act as the co-ordinating SME for Product Integrity in both Design and LCM reviews and ensuring access to other SMEs across Naval Ships as required.

Your main responsibilities as Head of Discipline - Product Integrity:

Strategic Leadership:

· Lead and manage the Product Integrity (Product Safety and Product Environmental) engineering team(s) as part of the overall Product Integrity discipline

· Ensure capability and skills development, performance optimisation and maximisation and efficient use of Product Integrity resources

· Understand the future programme for the business and the likely resource demands; build a plan to ensure the right skills are available to support the business

· Ensure all Product Integrity activities are undertaken in line with the Operational Framework and that compliance with all engineering policies is maintained

· Build, maintain and foster the Product Integrity capability and expertise

· Develop strong long-term relationships with Chief Engineers, projects teams and other functions as required

Tactical Resource Management:

· Identify resource requirements through the lifecycle of the business and manage Product Integrity resource and capabilities accordingly

· Recruit / sustain sufficient Product Integrity Engineers of appropriate capability to meet the demands of the business

· Manage career development through appropriate mentoring and liaison and by contributing to Performance Development Reviews

· Monitor the development and capability of all Product Integrity Engineers by identifying and tracking their skills and experience and by managing their training and CPD

· Provide cross company management and co-ordination of resource movement and allocation

Professional Head of Product Integrity Engineering:

· Represent BAE Systems Naval Ships on associated Product Integrity Working Groups

· Identify, develop and acquire the necessary tools (software, infrastructure, etc.) to support the Product Integrity activities of BAE Systems Naval Ships

· Review, rationalise, develop, maintain and implement appropriate business management processes for Product Integrity specific activities

· Responsible for promoting cross fertilisation of Product Integrity lessons learnt and good practice across BAE Systems Naval Ships, BAE Systems and external organisations as appropriate, including the recording of Lessons Learnt

· Participate in appropriate Lifecycle Management and Design Reviews in support of the Head of Engineering Governance

· Be the focal point and main point of contact for projects and bids that require Product Integrity input.

Thought Leadership:

· Guide the production and delivery of technical papers which illustrate BAE Systems Naval Ships world class Product Integrity Engineering

· Participate in appropriate external committees and other forums which are central to Naval construction, build and support

Discipline Specific Responsibilities:

· Interface and influence internal and external customers and other stakeholders to ensure Product Integrity outputs meet requirements and specifications

· Lead, or participate in, Communities of Interest to drive improvement into the business

· Contribute, with the Sector Head of Product Integrity, to the training and development strategies

· Assure the maturity of the developed solutions is appropriate for the specific requirement and that all technical risks and opportunities are captured

Revenue/Budget:

· Perform appropriate engineering planning, management and review activities to ensure that the discipline outputs are integrated, safe, fully compliant and delivered within agreed requirements for cost, quality, time and schedule

· Produce a budget plan in support of the Functional budget

Your skills and qualifications:

· Degree qualified in an Engineering related discipline.

· Chartered Engineer.

· Experience in this, or a closely associated, engineering discipline in a senior role that has demonstrated relevant domain knowledge and leadership skills.

· Experience in Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programmes.

· Substantial major programme experience in Product Integrity roles at all levels.

· Strong practitioner, by experience and expertise, in Product Integrity - either Product Safety or Product Environmental engineering.
