Principal Engineer - Technical Specialist - Outfit

This Principal Engineer role will provide Technical Direction for Outfitting Systems and support the Technical Authority (Outfit) in their role regarding the integration of Outfit systems on the platform design, whilst also supporting to deliver an affordable, capable ship throughout the Design Definition Phase.

In this role, you will provide direction to ensure that Outfit engineering meets the Lifecycle Management governance and reporting requirements of the Company and the Authority. You will be responsible for assisting in the development, management and governance of design elements of the RCD platform including production of design artefacts and input to Certificates of Design.

You will take responsibility for reviewing the Outfit Product Safety, Classification, Key Hazard certification and Product Environmental activities, including managing hazards/risks to SFARP and preparation of SDSAs with the Safety team and providing recommendations to the Outfit Technical Authority.

You will also be responsible for assisting in the development, management and acceptance of the Outfit requirements, including reviewing acceptance evidence and providing recommendations to the Outfit Technical Authority.

Your main responsibilities as Principal Engineer - Technical Specialist - Outfit will be:

· Support the Zonal Review programme leading to final compartment approval

· Support in the technical management of Suppliers including design reviews

· Lead on resolution of key Outfit issues

· Technical risk assessment and mitigation – checking coherency across all engineering domains

· Reviewing key supplier engineering deliverables

· Support the Technical Authority - Outfit in Authorising Outfit documentation, achieving certification and classification.

· Carry out technical analysis and investigations into complex problems, issues and opportunities arising in the Outfit area to provide clear conclusions, implications and recommend a solution.

· Support to delivering Certificates of Design

· Technical Reports resulting from directed Technical Investigations

Your skills and qualifications:

· Engineering Degree or equivalent operating experience.

· Chartered Engineer status (Highly Desirable)

· Appreciation of wider Warship platform design and principles of operation.

· Knowledge of Outfit design processes and inter-relationships.

· Understanding of current and future technologies.

· Knowledgeable and experienced in the development of ship design.

· Experience of internal and external Stakeholder / Customer management and a collaborative working environment
