About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Water, the Environmental Coordinator, Water Stewardship plays a key role in supporting the Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Environment team, Community Relations team, and other departments. This position focuses on adapting compliance-based projects and programs to better reflect the interests and values of Indigenous Governments and Organizations. Guided by Teck’s values, BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and the spirit of reconciliation, this role will help shape water stewardship initiatives that are inclusive and respectful of Indigenous perspectives. These initiatives will also build on existing work completed to meet provincial and federal regulatory requirements and align with Teck’s broader water stewardship commitments, including those under the ICMM and The Copper Mark.
To be successful we are looking for someone with outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, who can effectively collaborate with partners with varying backgrounds, and at different seniority levels. The successful candidate should be a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills who can prioritize competing demands. Most importantly, we require an individual with outstanding presentation and engagement abilities, who can develop and maintain relationships and be the go-to person in this field.
Key Responsibilities
Be a courageous safety leader; lead by example and foster a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on Teck’s values of health, safety, environment, and Indigenous and community engagement.
Work closely with external parties to advance water stewardship initiatives, in accordance with HVC Operating requirements and values.
Work with HVC Environment, Community Relations and project teams to integrate Indigenous interests and values into water stewardship activities.
Lead the development and implementation of HVC’s Water Management and Mitigation Plan in collaboration with Indigenous Governments and Organizations.
Provide strategic leadership at multi-party working groups, maintaining positive relationships with key partners in government, local communities, and Indigenous Governments and Organizations.
Optimize the interface between regulatory and Corporate driven water stewardship activities and activities undertaken in response to the priorities of Indigenous Governments and Organizations.
Manage and track water related concerns of Indigenous Governments and Organizations in collaboration with the Community Relations team and coordinate resolution with site activities
Execute project management tasks including bid/proposal review, procurement, contractor supervision, invoice review/approval, cost tracking, reporting and issue resolution.
Review documents and provide feedback to authors to improve readability for non-technical audiences
Perform other responsibilities as assigned or required
Qualifications
Engineering or Science degree in mining, natural resources or environmental-related field.
Minimum three years’ experience in mining, resource development, industrial operations, environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and productively as a team member and with external communities of interest including regulatory agencies and Indigenous Governments and Organizations.
Strong organizational (including time management), interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail.
Strong presentation and engagement abilities, who can develop and maintain relationships.
Ability to organize priorities based on deadlines and strong attention to detail.
Ability to liaise with colleagues and contractors on site in a respectful and professional manner.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work as part of a team in a diverse workplace.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license, with the ability to safely operate different equipment.
Eligibility to work in Canada.
Pay Range: CAD $93,000 - $115,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
Working Conditions:
Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
