Summary/Objective
The Machine Adjuster plays a crucial role in ensuring the precise adjustment and calibration of converting machine mechanisms to meet job specifications. This position is responsible for providing essential guidance and job-specific instructions to Machine Operators while actively monitoring production and machine performance throughout job completion. As a key member of the Operations team, the Machine Adjuster troubleshoots and repairs converting equipment, supports the training and development of Machine Operators and Trainees, and upholds all safety requirements.
Essential Functions
Set up converting machines to produce envelopes that match design specifications provided on the job tickets and artwork
Monitor the converting equipment during production runs to ensure quality and to maximize a high level of productivity
Dispense ink from ink station according to job ticket
Maintain ink viscosities to ensure color consistency
Mount plates using plate mounting tapes
Set impressions, etch and registration on production machines
Ensure guards and interlocks are in place and operational, and housekeeping is in good order and maintained
Direct the Machine Operator in various stages of machine start-up, changes and quality and productivity standards
Provide training to coworkers, including other Machine Adjusters
Record set-up times, down time, repairs, quality control and raw materials
Assist other Machine Adjusters with quality evaluation, trouble shooting, break coverage, etc.
Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, trouble shooting and machine adjustment
Communicate effectively regarding machine or facility problems
Locate and retrieve paper and other materials from inventory as needed
Ensure job materials are appropriately stocked before shift change
Effectively communicate to team members and support teams on incoming shift to ensure continuous production of product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials
Collaborate with Sales and Management with information regarding machine capabilities, production timelines and tooling needs
Champion lean activities through participation and support
Demonstrate ability and willingness to work overtime

Competencies
Strong reading, writing and mathematical skills; ability to read equipment manuals, directions, schedules and tickets (English) and communicate to Machine Operators and other staff members
Strong mechanical aptitude and skills
Ability to quickly and precisely read rulers in English and metric
Ability to trouble shoot when problems surface in the envelopes being produced or in the functions of the equipment
Knowledge of electrical systems, counters and vacuum systems
Physical stamina
Preferred Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance is preferred
Minimum 2 – 5 years of experience as an Envelope Machine Adjuster preferred
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to adjust, repair and maintain high-speed automated machinery
Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics and electrical systems in an industrial setting is a plus
Knowledge of safety protocols and preventive maintenance procedures in a manufacturing environment
Prior experience working with W&D, RA or FL Smithe envelope converting machines is highly preferredCompany Description
