Scope of Position

An Instrumentation Coordinator works to prepare, sterilize, install, assemble, and/or clean all clinic or healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations, and medical procedures. The Instrumentation Coordinator ensures equipment, instruments, and supplies can be reused safely to prevent infections. This position is responsible for ensuring sterilized, appropriately functioning medical supplies and instrumentation are packaged and delivered to the point of use aseptically. Additionally, this role serves as a clinical liaison between the Operating Rooms and the CSS offsite location to track and allocate sterilized instrumentation across the Enterprise. The position also involves procuring and standardizing instrument trays across the Enterprise.

This role is utilized 24/7 across multiple reprocessing sites within the Health System, including Ross Heart Hospital, University Hospital, James Cancer Hospital, Same Day Surgery, University Hospital East, and all Ambulatory sites.

Position Summary

The Instrumentation Coordinator oversees daily activities between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Departments to facilitate efficient case flow. Responsibilities include case cart assembly, decontamination, assembly, sterilization/high-level disinfection of surgical inventory, and participation in projects and process improvements. The role promotes customer service and patient satisfaction through effective communication with clinical operations and sterile processing departments across the Medical Center. The position also involves ordering, procuring, and organizing instrument trays on a global level to serve the entire Enterprise.

Minimum Education and Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent (G.E.D.)

At least one year of experience as an instrument processor or Surgical Technologist

CRCST certification issued through IAHCSMM or CBSPD required upon hire, or must obtain within six months of hire
