Job Summary:

The special procedures technologist is responsible for the operation of Computed Tomography (CT), X-ray (XR) and Fluoroscopy. Technologists may also be trained in Mammography and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This multifaceted position performs high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures to support the accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients in a fast-paced hospital setting while providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Perform diagnostic procedures in CT, X-ray, MRI, Mammography, and/or Fluoroscopy, following strict imaging protocols and physician orders.

Ensure patient safety by:

Verifying patient identity and procedure.

Conducting pre-exam screenings for contraindications (e.g., metal implants, allergies to contrast).

Explaining procedures clearly to reduce anxiety and improve cooperation.

Applying ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles for radiation exposure.

Monitoring patients during and after procedures for any adverse reactions.

Accurately document imaging procedures and patient data in the electronic medical record and report any safety incidents or deviations.

Ensure cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms and assist in infection control measures.

Maintains education, knowledge, and training required to provide up-to-date quality care to patients and to stay current with CEU requirements as required by the ARRT.

Adhere to all regulatory standards including HIPAA, ALARA, and OSHA guidelines.

Participate in working variable shifts in the department to include weekends and holidays.

Possess the ability to react objectively, using good judgment in crisis situations and on specific issues.

Operate and maintain complex imaging equipment, troubleshooting as needed.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training or Degree Required:

Graduation from an accredited school for Radiologic Technology

License/Registration/Certification Required:

Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or Registry eligible (ARRT must be obtained prior to starting as Technologist).

Current BLS certification required

Experience and Skills:

Working knowledge of anatomy required.

Knowledge of methods of exposure to obtain the required images using the ALARA principle and be able to set up and operate equipment is required.

Working knowledge of contrast media is required.

Sufficient knowledge of patient care and sterile techniques to deal with all types of conditions required.

CT/MRI/Mammography experience preferred but not required.
