Overview
Summary: The North Florida/ South Georgia VA Healthcare System's Surgical Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic board-certified Plastic Surgeon. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to quality care standards and the growth of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player adaptable to a growing medical center.
Duties
Perform hand and wrist surgeries including fracture repairs, nerve repairs, tendon repairs, joint reconstructions, and skin grafts.
Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and perform surgical procedures for patients with defects of the hand/upper extremity.
Examine patients and assess deformities or illness.
Apply reconstructive, cosmetic and corrective treatments.
Perform non-invasive treatments.
Ensure sterilization of surgical equipment.
Follow up with patients and provide appropriate medical care.
Explain risks of procedures to patients.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information according to federal guidelines.
Conduct clinic consultations, minor procedures, returns, and post-operative appointments.
Conduction procedures at Malcom Randall VA Medical Center; OR ambulatory center in Lake City; travel not mandatory.
Supervise plastic surgery residents and fellows, general surgery residents, medical students, nursing staff, and ARNPs on site.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Requirements
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed when VA policy allows.
Urinalysis screening before appointment if designated; refusal => denial.
Selective Service Registration for males born after 1959.
Proficient in written and spoken English.
Probationary period may be required.
Subject to background/security investigation.
Complete online onboarding; acceptable I-9 documents; REAL ID compliance.
Pre-employment physical examination required.
Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program.
Qualifications
Basic requirements include US citizenship, MD/DO degree, full unrestricted medical license, residency in Plastic Surgery approved by VA, board certification or eligibility, etc.
Preferred Experience
Hand Surgery Fellowship preferred.
