PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £25,700 - £32,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Operator to join the BBC Nations Operations team based in Hull
We cover the counties of East Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire and North Norfolk. We cover human stories arising from issues that are most pertinent to our cities – Hull and Lincoln – as well as our major towns and rural villages. Our audience are impacted by changes to farming, fishing and major industries, from housing, travel links, weather extremes and the usual pressures on healthcare and education.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM
The Ops team works alongside editorial colleagues in Regional TV, Local Radio and Online. We collaborate to produce engaging content and strong local journalism with high operational, craft and production standards for BBC Yorkshire & Lincolnshire. We multi-skill and regularly cover a range of skills within the building such as studio camera, media hub, edit, graphics and directing bulletins, as well as location work such as news gathering and location editing. We also frequently cover some of the responsibilities of the Journalism Coordinator such as gallery PA/News Transmission Assistant and Autocue.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
As a technical operator you’ll work in a busy news environment and develop an understanding of the varied technical roles that bring together a polished news programme. Ideally you will have experience of or an interest in one of the following skill sets:
Studio camera and associated floor managing
Media hub
Bulletin directing
Graphic design
Some JC work such as NTA Count, Autocue and newsroom administrative duties
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic and self-disciplined who’s able to plan ahead but also to deal with ever changing circumstances and make quick decisions. You’ll need to be alert and confident in live news scenarios, an excellent communicator and be able to develop an understanding of operational equipment and ways of working. You’ll have an interest in our content and services and recognise the importance of being able to adapt in line with changing audience behaviour.
