Description

Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to join our Maritime Systems Division in Long Beach, MS. This role supports the development and integration of advanced shipboard marine power systems for next-generation manned and unmanned maritime platforms. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in marine electrical systems and proficiency in AutoCAD for schematic and layout design.

The ideal candidate will contribute to both new designs and legacy system upgrades for vessels used in commercial, industrial, or defense applications. Experience with harsh environmental considerations, compliance with marine standards, and hands-on commissioning is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop shipboard electrical power systems, including AC/DC distribution, switchgear, and control systems

Create and modify electrical schematics and layouts using AutoCAD

Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as ABS, DNV, IEEE, USCG, and IMO regulations

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate subsystems into maritime platforms

Support prototype development, testing, and field deployment

Conduct verification and validation activities for marine electrical systems

Prepare detailed technical documentation, including test plans and reports

Troubleshoot and optimize existing systems to improve reliability and performance

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

5+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering

Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design and documentation

Strong understanding of analog/digital circuit design and power distribution

Willingness to travel for field testing and integration

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of shipboard and marine electrical systems

Familiarity with PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.), SCADA, and embedded control systems

Familiarity with Altium Designer or similar PCB design and layout tools

Knowledge of MIL-STD electrical design practices

Prior experience supporting DoD or naval programs

Knowledge of cybersecurity principles as applied to industrial control systems and automation environments

Familiarity with shipboard networking protocols (NMEA 2000, Modbus, CANbus)

At Leidos, we don’t want someone who "fits the mold"—we want someone who melts it down and builds something better. This is a role for the restless, the over-caffeinated, the ones who ask, “what’s next?” before the dust settles on “what’s now.”

If you’re already scheming step 20 while everyone else is still debating step 2… good. You’ll fit right in.

Original Posting:July 21, 2025

For U.S. Positions: While subject to change based on business needs, Leidos reasonably anticipates that this job requisition will remain open for at least 3 days with an anticipated close date of no earlier than 3 days after the original posting date as listed above.
