As a critical part of a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals, you will provide the technical support necessary to ensure reliable and efficient operations of our existing fixed assets. As a member of the Refinery Reliability Department, the Refinery Stationary Equipment Specialist is responsible for inspecting, monitoring and reporting on the condition of stationary equipment in service, developing and monitoring inspection plans (ESDS) and maintaining histories. It is also a key element for quality control of new installations and repairs.
Many aspects of the position require many years to be fully competent experience, as the candidate acquires specific knowledge and skills to these systems and experience within the Montreal refinery. You will provide solutions to chronic equipment problems and initiate or participate in failure studies of stationary and rotating equipment. You will also analyze equipment performance reports to identify and implement opportunities for improvement so that the reliability of your area is not only maintained, but increased. Stationary equipment includes but is not limited to: furnace burner, steam trap program, valve repair and inspection, flange repairs, exchanger flange repairs and many other equipment that are not under the inspection program (RBI).
Minimum Requirements:
7-10 years of proficient experience and understanding of our Montreal Refinery and/or heavy industrial experience.
Fluent in French and English (Please submit your resume in French)
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
In-depth knowledge of stationary equipment (Knowledge of rotating equipment would also be considered an asset)
Technical knowledge and knowledge of applicable engineering standards would also be considered an asset (ex. API, ASME Sec VIII, B31.3, etc.)
Dedication to employee health and safety and the environment
Strong leadership, problem solving and decision-making skills
Organizational and priority management skills and knowledge of appropriate documentation standards
Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a customer-focused approach
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with an aptitude for self-directed learning

Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical expertise to operations regarding technologies and methods for improving equipment reliability
Support failure analysis in collaboration with incident investigation teams.
Manage maintenance records and histories for stationary equipment.
Troubleshoot and complete an operational analysis of major and/or problematic equipment.
Create, revise, and optimize maintenance plans, procedures, and standard repair procedures to improve equipment reliability and tightening procedures.
Optimize maintenance plans and recommend solutions for obsolete equipment.
Recommend and introduce new technologies and innovative work methods.
Coordinate (or have performed by other engineers in the refinery) minimum thickness calculations and recertification for pressure vessels.
Maintain regular communication with other refinery specialists at the Montreal Refinery and other Suncor sites to maintain their level of expertise.
Training maintenance personnel and operators on equipment operation and methods to improve reliability
Promoting work methods that help identify the root causes of equipment failure.
Supporting operations and maintenance in the use of condition detection techniques and interpreting results to minimize equipment failure
Assisting engineering in the acquisition of new equipment
Assisting in defining capital projects and reviewing of the drawings
Preparing the Major Items section of the maintenance budget with other specialists

You will work out of our Montréal office, located at 11701 Sherbrooke Street East
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
